Mercer Rallies Past Tigers

MACON, Ga.- Thomas Carroll hit a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth to lift Mercer to a come from behind 6-5 win over Savannah State at Claude Smith Field.

The loss drops SSU to 23-21 on the season.

The score was 1-1 after one inning of play as Tristan Smith led off with a single and later scored on a wild pitch for SSU.

Savannah State added two more runs in the second when Darien Campbell hit a RBI single that scored David Washington who earlier singled and Smith hit a RBI double that allowed Campbell to score.

Campbell led off with a double in the top of the fifth and scored on a Matt Oglesby bunt. 

Mercer scored twice in the bottom of the inning but SSU added a run in the top of the sixth after Washington hit a RBI double for a 5-3 lead.

The Bears scored once in the seventh and Carroll's double in the ninth gave Mercer their 17th win of the season.

Smith, Washington and Campbell had had two hits for the Tigers. Campbell scored twice in a losing effort.

Michael Allegretti pitched 1.1 inning in relief and took the loss as he gave up two hits and two runs.
