GREENSBORO, N.C.- X. Macklin hit a solo home run in the first game and added a two-run home run in the nightcap to lead North Carolina A&T to a double-header sweep of Savannah State at War Memorial Stadium.
The Aggies won the opener 11-4 and completed the sweep with a 14-2 victory in the second game.
In the first game, A&T led 2-0 after two innings of play but the Tigers struck back with a pair of runs in the top of the third as
David Washington and
Darien Campbell scored as a result of Aggie errors.
SSU went ahead 4-2 in the top of the fifth. Campbell led off with a walk and came home after Jonathan Ross hit a single and
Andrew Mendez followed Ross with a RBI double which scored Ross.
A&T tied the game in the bottom of the fifth and added four runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth.
Campbell scored twice for the Tigers.
Michael Allegretti took the loss for SSU despite striking out seven. Allegretti gave up 12 hits and six runs in six innings.
Macklin led A&T by going 4-for-5 with 4 RBI and 4 runs scored.
In the second game, the Aggies scored five runs in the first inning and did not look back. A&T added two runs in the second and six more in the third for a commanding 13-0 advantage.
The Tigers scored their only runs of the game in the fifth as
Matthew Oglesby scored on a sacrifice fly hit by
Tristan Smith and
Dexter Kelley's single scored Ross.
A&T scored the last run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth.
Ross had two doubles and a single to lead SSU (23-18).
Joseph Jackson pitched five innings for SSU and gave up 15 hits and 13 runs.
N. Rogers had 4 RBI to lead the Aggies (10-26).
