BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Alabama Birmingham scored 10 runs in the third inning in a 20-2 win over Savannah State at Young Memorial Field.
UAB took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. After a scoreless second, the Blazers sent 15 batters to the plate in the third and hit back-to-back home runs.
The Blazers (13-10) scored four more runs in the fourth.
Savannah State prevented the shutout with a run in the fifth inning when
Dexter Kelley singled home Matt Oglesby.
UAB scored three more times in the sixth and one in the seventh.
The Tigers added the final run of the game in the top of the ninth when Matt Nowacki hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Oglesby to score.
Kelley and Julius Green each had two hits for SSU (14-13) and Oglesby scored twice.
Robert Ramsdale took the loss giving up eight hits and eight runs in two innings.
Both teams left 14 runners on base.
