Dexter Kelley hit a two-run single in the first inning and Savannah State went on to defeat Mercer at Grayson Stadium 5-1.
Although Mercer left nine runners on base, SSU pitcher Jarrell Arnold held the Bears scoreless until the seventh inning.
Kelley's single drove in Matt Nowacki and Jonathan Ross who was hit by a pitch and reached on an error respectively for a 2-0 lead.
Mercer had the bases loaded in the second but could not score.
In the fourth,
Andrew Mendez led off with a double and later came home when
Dychal Bowles grounded out to second to put SSU up 3-0.
The Bears scored their lone run in the top of the seventh but Savannah State added two runs in their half of the inning when
Darien Campbell singled home
David Washington and later scored himself as he stole third and scored on an error by the catcher.
The Bears left a total of five runners on base in the final two innings.
Arnold, who pitched 7.2 innings, picked up the win for the Tigers (13-11). Arnold gave up four hits, one run and struck out two batters.
Mendez had a double for SSU and Nowacki hit a triple.
Mercer (7-10) was led by Thomas Carroll who had two singles. Dan April, who pitched three innings and struck out four, took the loss. April gave up two runs and one hit.
