SSU Shuts Down Eagles 12-1

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Eric Ransom and Courtrevez McTier combined to throw a four hitter and strike out nine batters as Savannah State rose above.500 with a 12-1 victory over North Carolina Central at Tiger Field.

SSU improved to 12-11 with the win.

Ransom allowed three hits over six innings and posted seven strikeouts while McTier pitched one inning in relief and struck out two of the four batters he faced.

Oliver Jenkins hit a solo home run for NCCU (3-11) in the first inning to give the Eagles an early 1-0 edge.

SSU was scoreless in the first inning but piled up a dozen runs over the next four innings.

Tristan Smith hit a RBI double and later scored on an error and Darien Campbell hit a RBI single for a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second.

Matthew Oglesby drove in a run when he grounded out in the third and Andrew Mendez scored on a wild pitch to increase SSU's lead to 5-1.

In the fourth, Brandon Webster and Jonathan Ross had RBI singles and the Tigers sent five runners across the plate in the fifth as David Washington had a RBI single, Julius Green drove in two runs with his single and Mendez drove in a pair with a double.

Washington scored three runs for SSU while Oglesby and Smith scored twice. Ross and Mendez had two hits each and Green and Mendez each had two RBI.

Brando Oatis took the loss for the Eagles. Oatis gave up seven hits and seven runs while striking out three in 3.2 innings.

NCCU made six errors.
