DOVER, Del.- Matt Nowacki,
Dexter Kelley,
Andrew Mendez and
Dychal Bowles all hit home runs for Savannah State but it would not be enough as the Tigers lost to Delaware State 15-9 at Soldier Field.
Bowles hit a solo home run in the second inning, Kelley hit a two-run shot in the fourth while Nowacki and Mendez hit two-run bangers in the sixth.
DSU scored four times in the first. The Tigers (7-10) added two more runs in the third as
Brett Pointer drove in a run and Mendez scored on a throwing error to make the score 4-3 in favor of DSU. The Hornets scored four more times in the bottom of the third to increase their lead to 8-3.
After Kelley's home run cut SSU's deficit to 8-5, the Hornets scored three times for a 11-5 advantage in the fourth.
DSU scored once in the fifth for a 12-5 lead but the Tigers had four runners cross the plate in the
sixth to make the score 12-9.
Delaware State added one run in the seventh and two more in the eighth for the final runs of the contest.
SSU, who banged out 13 hits, left 10 runners stranded on base.
Nowacki, Kelley and
David Washington all had two hits while Nowacki, Kelley and Mendez all had two RBI and scored twice.
Eric Ransom pitched 2.2 innings for the Tigers, giving up nine hits and eight runs.
James Johnson drove in four runs for DSU (5-7-1).
