SSU Defeats Delaware State

DOVER, Del.- Savannah State swept a double header from Delaware State 2-1 and 3-0 at
Soldier Field.

Robert Ramsdale hurled a four hitter and struck out five in game one while Michael Allegretti pitched a one-hitter in game two.

The Tigers broke a scoreless tie in the fifth. Andrew Mendez was hit by a pitch and reached second on a wild pitch. Dexter Kelley laid a bunt down the third base line which allowed Mendez to reach third. Mendez scored when Matt Oglesby grounded out to third.

In the sixth, Darien Campbell walked a stole second and came home on a single by Jonathan Ross.

The Hornets left six runners on base.

In game two, Mendez hit a RBI double in the first inning that scored Ross for a 1-0 advantage.

In the fifth, SSU (7-9) scored twice as Campbell hit a sacrifice fly to score Tristan Smith, who led off the inning with a double and Matt Nowacki's bunt allowed David Washington, who reached on a fielder's choice, to score.

Both teams stranded five runners on base.

Nowacki had two hits for SSU.

Allegretti gave up his lone hit in the fourth, a double to Rittuzo.

DSU drops to 4-7-1 with the loss.
