SAVANNAH, Ga.- Trailing 5-0, Charleston Southern scored seven runs in the final three innings as the Buccaneers rallied to defeat Savannah State at Tiger Field.
CSU (4-9) sliced their deficit to 5-3 in the eighth but scored four times in the ninth to get the win.
Savannah State took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Jonathan Ross, who reached on an error, scored on a wild pitch and
Andrew Mendez, who walked, scored when
Dexter Kelley grounded out.
David Washington and
Tristan Smith led off the fifth with a single and a walk and later scored to give the Tigers a 4-0 advantage.
Matt Oglesby hit a RBI single in the seventh to bring home
Brett Pointer, who led off with a single for a 5-0 lead.
The Bucs, who stranded six runners through the first six innings, scored twice in the seventh and added another in the eighth thanks to a pair of SSU errors.
In the ninth, Charleston Southern tied the game at five and with two outs Kory Morian hit a two-run single that scored the game winning run.
Eric Ransom pitched 7.1 innings for SSU (5-8) and struck out eight batters. Ransom yielded seven hits, three runs and two walks. Oglesby pitched 1.2 innings in relief and surrendered four hits and four runs.
Mark Perry had three hits for the Bucs and Brandon Roberts pitched two innings in relief to earn the win.
