Aggies Sweep Savannah State

SAVANNAH, Ga.- North Carolina A&T swept a double header from Savannah State at Tiger Field winning the first game 5-2 and the nightcap 6-3.

In the first game, SSU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Matt Nowacki's ground out to first scored David Washington who earlier struck out but reached base on an error.

The Aggies (2-5) tied the game in the top of the second when Christian Beatty hit a solo home run and took a 3-1 advantage in the top of the fifth.

George Hines hit a solo home run for A&T in the seventh for a 4-1 lead.

Beatty led off the ninth with his second homer of the contest to extend A&T's lead to 5-1. The Tigers added a run in the bottom of the inning when Matt Oglesby hit a sacrifice fly to left field which brought home Andrew Mendez, who earlier singled.

Michael Allegretti went the distance for the Tigers and took the loss, despite striking out seven.

B McGraw won for the Aggies and struck out six batters.

In the second game, A&T broke a 3-3 tie by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh to get the win, thanks to a pair of SSU errors.

The Tigers took an early lead in the third when Nowacki hit a RBI double to drive home Washington, who also doubled.

After A&T's Cyril Daniel homered in the fourth to tie the game, the Aggies added two more runs in the fifth for a 3-1 lead.

Savannah State (3-3) scored once in the fifth as Tristan Smith led off with a walk and later stole home. In the sixth, the Tigers tied the game as Mendez singled to bring home Darien Campbell who was pinch running for Jonathan Ross who earlier singled.

Robert Ramsdale suffered the loss for SSU, going six innings and giving up seven hits and only two earned runs.

E. Paulino struck out eight in five innings and took home the win for the Aggies.
