Tigers Fall To St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y.- Savannah State fell to 4-6 with a 79-47 loss to St. Bonaventure before 3,331 fans at the Reilly Center.

The Tigers fell behind 5-0 but quickly cut their deficit to one point with a layup from Glen Izevbigie and a jumper from Patrick Hardy.

St. Bonaventure responded with six unanswered points to go ahead 11-4.

Savannah State rallied to cut the Bonnies lead to 13-11 but a 16-3 run by the home team expanded their lead to 15 points with 4:04 on the clock.

Six consecutive points from Rashad Hassan pulled the Tigers within nine but St. Bonaventure went into the locker room with a 35-22 edge.

St. Bonaventure started the second half with a 15-0 run and led 50-22 with 12:49 remaining.

SSU could only get as close as 24 points before the Bonnies opened their biggest lead of the night at 72-35 with 5:16 on the clock.

Tracy Rankins had 11 points for SSU and made 5-of-6 free throw attempts. Hassan added 10 points.

The Bonnies had four players in double figures as they improved to 6-3. Andrew Nicholson scored 18 points to lead the way.

St. Bonaventure shot 60 percent from the field in the second half and 53.3 percent for the game.

Both teams had 28 rebounds.
