William Bell is entering his first season as Savannah State University running backs coach.
Prior to coming to SSU, Bell began his coaching career at Edward Waters College in 2004. He served as interim head coach at EWC in 2010. He also served as the wide receivers/special team’s coordinator during the 2008-2009 seasons and running backs/special team’s coordinator during 2006-2007.During his eight year stint at EWC, the special teams ranked 8th in NAIA in average punt return yards in 2006 and improved to 2nd in 2007. Bell was also a part of three South- Eastern Atlantic Conference Championships at Edward Waters in 2004, 2007, and 2008.
During the summer of 2006, Bell was selected to participate in the National Football League’s Minority Program with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has also conducted several camps and worked as a speed and agility instructor.
Bell played collegiate football as a three-year starter at Georgia Tech where he was a part of the National Championship Team in 1990. He also represented the championship team with an appearance on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
After his collegiate career, he played in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins form 1994-1997 as a running back/full back and on special teams.
Bell received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Georgia Tech.
