Saeed Khalif enters his first season as defensive coordinator at Savannah State University.
Prior to coming to SSU, Khalif served as head coach at Central High School in Newark, NJ. There he led Central High to its first multiple -game winning season since 1992 and was elected to coach in the New Jersey East-West All Star Game. While at Central High, Khalif coached and mentored nine All-County players.
Khalif started his coaching career as the defensive coordinator at Southside Youth Academic Athletic Association in Atlanta, Ga. He then served as defensive coordinator at Redan High School in Stone Mountain, Ga. from 1999-2002. While there, Redan made the playoffs three out of the four years and produced 11 scholarship athletes.
He then served as defensive coordinator at Decatur High school in Decatur, Ga. from 2003-2005. During his tenure, Decatur’s defense held opponents to an impressive eight shutout games. During his first year, the team snapped a six-year long losing streak. The following seasons Decatur High finished with 13-1 and 9-2 records.
As a player, Khalif was a four-year letterman at Georgia Institute of Technology from 1983-1987. In his senior season, he led the team with 127 tackles. Khalif was named to the All-ACC Team, Defensive Most Valuable Player, Team Captain, Honorable Mention All-America and was also a member of the Georgia Tech “Black Watch.” Khalif also had stints with NFL teams such as the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos.
He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1988.
