John Roberts Jr. was named the offensive coordinator for the Savannah State University football team during the summer of 2022.
Roberts worked at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, for the previous two years as the offensive line coach, the offensive recruiting coordinator in 2020, and the offensive coordinator in 2021.
Prior to that, Roberts worked as a coach at Mesa College in San Diego, where he spent three seasons as the coordinator for special teams and one season coaching the wide receivers and offensive line. A reinforced and upgraded front allowed Mesa to significantly increase passing yards and running touchdowns throughout the 2016 season with the offensive line.
While Roberts was training with the receivers, the Olympians had one of their greatest passing seasons in 2018, averaging 308 passing yards per game. Mesa finished the year 9-2 overall and won the Southern California American Bowl.
At El Camino High School in Oceanside, California, where he spent two seasons as the school's head coach, Roberts guided the football team to a CIF Division I runner-up finish in 2015 and a semifinal trip the year before. As the associate head coach, offensive coordinator, and offensive line coach in 2013, he also contributed to Saint Augustine High School's CIF Division II Championship victory.
His first position in coaching was as the running backs coach at his alma mater, Utah State, where he helped develop Chris Forbes, who broke three Aggie freshman records in 2004, and David Fiefia, who later earned All-Sun Belt honors.
John Roberts now lives in Savannah with his wife Chastity and their two children Luke and Victoria.
