Greg Lester enters his first season as assistant head coach/outside receivers coach at Savannah State.
Lester comes to SSU from Lakeside High School in Decatur, Georgia. Lester was the Lakeside head football coach in 2006-07 and spent the last two years as the head golf coach.
Lester and SSU head football coach Steve Davenport have coached together in the past on the high school level; working at Rockdale High School (Conyers, GA), Decatur High School (Decatur, GA) and Redan High School (Stone Mountain, GA).
Lester was the passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach at Rockdale High during the 2005-06 seasons and spent the 2003-04 seasons at Decatur High as the offensive coordinator. He was the assistant head coach/offensive coordinator at Redan High during the 2002 season. Lester was the wide receiver coach at Redan from 1997-99.
He was the wide receiver coach at Morris Brown College in Atlanta, working under former Savannah State head coach Joe Crosby during the 2001 campaign.
After graduating from Lakeside High in 1987, Lester attended Georgia Tech on a football scholarship. During his career with the Yellow Jackets, he caught 93 passes for 1,688 yards and 13 touchdowns and was a member of the 1990 National Championship team.
Lester spent the 1992 season with the Denver broncos as a wide receiver and played in the Canadian Football league with the Saskatchewan Roughriders from 1994-96.
He has a degree from Georgia Tech in business management.
