Assistant baseball coach Emanuel Wheeler returns for his fourth season as the outfielders coach for the Tigers.
In 2008, Wheeler was named Interim Head Coach for the final 12 games of the season. it was his first opportunity at a head coaching position and to lead a Division I collegiate baseball program.
Before joining the SSU, Wheeler served as the Infield/Outfield Coach for Chicago State University (Chicago, Illinois) in 2006. During his tenure, he also served as the Director of Baseball Operations. In May 2006, Wheeler was the Assistant Coach for the CICL Summer League team, Galesburg Pioneers (Galesburg, Illinois).
Wheeler obtained his bachelor’s degree in Individualized Curriculum with a minor in Physical Education & Coaching from Chicago State University (Chicago, IL) in 2005.
While attending Chicago State, Wheeler played for the University’s baseball team and served as the team captain his senior year. He received academic recognition as an Athletic Director’s Honor Roll student. Wheeler also received his associate’s degree in Arts from Morton Junior College (Cicero, IL).
While on the diamond, Wheeler encourages the players that they should always “Work hard to win and never let the next man count you out,” reminding them of the importance of hard work and perseverance.
Wheeler is married to Kendra Wheeler and the couple resides in Savannah, Ga. He is the son of Robert and Audrey Wheeler, co-pastors of Christ Outreach Deliverance Center (Chicago, Ill.).
