As a member of the NCAA and the SIAC, Savannah State University is obligated to conduct its Intercollegiate Athletics programs in compliance with the rules and regulations set forth by both associations.

The University President, has ultimate responsibility for the affairs of the athletic department, including rules-compliance. In addition, both the Director of Athletics and the Faculty Athletics Representative play an active role in the direct oversight of compliance-related issues. Savannah State University takes extreme pride in its tradition of academic and athletic excellence.

As all of our athletic programs continue to uphold that tradition and strive for even higher academic and athletic accomplishments, the highest standard of rules compliance will be maintained. Intentional violations of NCAA rules will not be tolerated at Savannah State University.

In order for our compliance program to be successful, we must continue to communicate effectively with each other. Compliance is everyone’s responsibility. Each athletic department staff member, if in doubt, has a responsibility to inquire as to the permissibility of certain activities prior to taking action.

Furthermore, every employee has an obligation to report known or suspected violations of NCAA or SIAC rules, no matter how minor or severe, as soon as such information or suspicion is known. Loyalty to co-workers, student-athletes or representatives of the institution’s athletics interests (boosters) cannot take precedence over loyalty to Savannah State University and our commitment to comply with NCAA and SIAC rules.

We must continue to work together to achieve both academic and athletic success within both the letter and spirit of NCAA and SIAC rules. Thank you for your continued commitment to these objectives. Go Tigers!

For Students

The Savannah State University Athletics Department has dedicated itself to encouraging and assisting its student-athletes in becoming focused collegians, representative ambassadors of the student body, and model citizens in the campus and local community. Savannah State University (SSU) is a Division II member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and participates in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).

SSU requires all student-athletes to meet all minimal standards set forth by both organization. It is the Compliance Office’s responsibility to assist with that obligation. The Office of Athletic Compliance seeks to protect the eligibility as well as the overall athletics interest of SSU. Tiger student-athletes should never hesitate to contact the Compliance Office with questions or concerns they have regarding anything relating to this or any other information pertaining to the NCAA, SIAC or SSU rules.
