MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Savannah State women's cross country placed sixth at the Brewton-Parker Invitational on Friday, led by another strong performance from Saniya Swain.
The Lady Tigers totaled 161 points in the women's 5K. Georgia Gwinnett won the seven-team event with 56 points, followed by Florida State College at Jacksonville with 60 and Edward Waters with 65. ABAC (79) and Georgia Military College (101) rounded out the top five ahead of Savannah State.
Swain paced Savannah State, crossing the finish line in 27:38.4 to place 25th overall. Freshman Aniyah Smith was right behind her, finishing 26th overall in 27:39.2.
The pair finished less than a second apart, continuing their strong start to the 2026 season. Swain also led Savannah State at the season-opening Willie Laster Invitational in Albany, finishing the women's 5K in 27:32.71, while Smith followed closely behind in 27:36.00.
Victoria Taylor was Savannah State's third finisher Friday, placing 39th overall with a time of 29:45.8.
Alana Jones crossed the line in 36:29.2, followed closely by Savanna Hester in 36:31.0. Samyah Berry completed Savannah State's lineup with a time of 36:37.6.
Edward Waters' Alaysa Chipunov captured the individual title with a winning time of 20:39.6. FSCJ's Adia Gove finished second in 22:00.1, while Georgia Gwinnett's Sadie McGuinn was third in 22:00.4.
