SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State honored their seniors before their doubleheader with LeMoyne-Owen at Tiger Field and then went on to sweep the Magicians 5-2 and 8-6.
The wins improved the Tigers overall record to 22-18 and 19-10 in the SIAC.
SSU broke a tie game in the opener with a pair of runs in the sixth inning.
A bases loaded walk to
Julian Grier allowed
Chandler Hicks to score in the second inning for a 1-0 lead.
LeMoyne-Owen answered with a pair of runs in the top of the third to go in front but SSU answered in the bottom of the inning when a groundout by
Gavin Jusino brought home
Johan Sandoval to tie the game at 2-2.
A two-run single in the sixth by
Jason Ramos made the score 4-2 and a single to right field by
Kidane Stephens that scored Ramos in the eighth gave the Tigers a three-run margin.
Austin McCormack pitched a complete game and struck out eight batters.
Ramos had two hits and two RBI while Sandoval added a pair of hits.
In the second game, the Tigers trailed but rallied with five runs in the sixth inning.
SSU entered the third inning down 3-0 but a sacrifice fly by
Julian Grier allowed
Bryce Bause to score a run.
After the Magicians made the score 4-1 in the top of the fourth, a triple by Bause sent home
Gabe Breckenridge to make the score 4-2.
A sacrifice fly by Stephens in the fifth allowed
Jason Ramos to cross home plate and cut the SSU deficit to 4-3.
The Tigers pulled away in the sixth with five runs on four hits.
With the bases loaded, a double by
Jayden Clark cleared the bases and a double by Sandoval allowed Clark to score. Sandoval came home on a single by Stephens for a 8-4 advantage.
LeMoyne-Owen scored twice in the seventh.
Clark drove in three runs while Stephens had two RBI.
Breckenridge had two hits and scored twice, Ramos scored twice while Grier and Sandoval both had two hits.
Bynton Edge was the winning pitcher. Edge pitched 3.1 innings in relief and recorded one strikeout.
