Savannah State Sweeps LeMoyne-Owen In Series Finale

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Gavin Jusino drove in two runs and Seth Stargell scored twice to help Savanah State to a 7-4 win over LeMoyne-Owen on Sunday at Tiger Field.

The win over completed a three-game sweep of the Magicians in their final home game of the regular season.

SSU came to bat in the eighth inning down 4-2 but finished the game scoring the final five runs off four hits.

Stargell led off the bottom of the eighth with a double to center field and scored on a single by Kadine Stephens. A Chandler Hicks single to left field moved Stephens to second base and when Gabe Breckenridge reached base on an error by the catcher, Stephens made his way home. Hicks scored on a single by Zachary Turner and when Jusino reached base on a throwing error by the second baseman, Breckenridge and Turner scored.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Jason Ramos hit a single to left field and scored on a single to center field by Stargell for a 1-0 lead.

LeMoyne-Owen tied the game in the fourth and took a 2-1 lead with another run in the fifth.

Stargell reached base on an error by the third baseman in the sixth and scored when Hicks reached base because of an error by the third baseman to tie the game at 2-2.

The Magicians pulled ahead with a run in the top of the seventh and another in the top half of the eighth, before Savannah State made their run.

SSU finished the contest with nine hits and made three errors while leaving four runners on base. LeMoyne-Owen collected eight hits, made five errors and stranded ten runners on base.

Stargell, Stephens and Hicks all had two hits each for the Tigers.

On the hill, SSU used three pitchers with reliever Adonis Perez earning the win.

Gregorio Gonzalez started the game and pitched 6.1 innings, giving up six hits and three hits while recording six strikeouts. Giovante Tomlins came in and pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up one run and one hit while Perez lasted the final two innings and held the Magicians to one hit while striking out one.

Savannah State (23-18, 20-10 SIAC) will finish the regular season on the road with a three-game series at Lane on April 24-25.
