SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State sent their senior players out with a win as the Lady Tigers defeated Edward Waters 4-0 on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the SSU Softball Field.
Playing their final home game of the season were
Ariana Battle,
Phaedra Smith,
Zorianna Ford,
Neveah Ford,
Carissa Ball,
Ambria Guye,
Ansley Hudson,
Kennedy Alsbrook and
Madison Starling-Martin.
Three of the seniors had a big day at the plate with Guye hitting a solo home run while Hudson hit a triple and Starling-Martin added a double.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Hudson hit a triple while
Neveah Ford followed with a single to put runners on the corners for Guye who hit a sacrifice fly that was deep enough to allow Hudson to score. A single to right field by Smith brought home Ford and a double to center field allowed Smith to score for a 3-0 advantage.
Guye hit her home run over the left field fence in the sixth inning for the final run of the contest.
Hudson had two hits for SSU and Guye drove in a pair of runs.
On the mound,
Donnea Allen threw a four-hitter while striking out ten batters.
Savannah State (25-15, 15-9 SIAC) will close out the regular season on the road against Claflin on April 22 in a non-conference doubleheader.
A win over Claflin would tie the school record of most wins in a single season while a sweep over the Panthers would set a new school record of most wins in a single season.
The record of most wins in a single season (26) was set in 2012 and matched in 2013 and 2016.
Amber Hallman, the current SSU head softball coach, was a sophomore pitcher on that 2016 squad.
