Amber Hallman enters her fifth season as head softball coach at Savannah State University in 2027, continuing a homecoming tenure that has seen the former Lady Tiger standout guide her alma mater to new heights.
Hallman is coming off a historic 2026 campaign in which she led Savannah State to a 27-18 overall record, establishing a new program record for victories in a single season. The 27 victories surpassed the previous school record of 26, originally established in 2012 and later matched in 2013 and 2016.
The record-setting season carried special significance for Hallman, who was a member of the 2016 Savannah State squad that tied the previous program record. A decade later, she returned to the dugout as head coach and guided the Lady Tigers beyond that mark, adding another chapter to her legacy within the program.
Savannah State also finished 15-9 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play in 2026, tying for second place in the SIAC East Division and earning a berth in the SIAC Softball Championship.
The breakthrough season represented the culmination of steady growth under Hallman's leadership. After winning eight games during her first season in 2023, Savannah State improved to 14 victories in 2024 and 15 wins in 2025 before making the jump to a school-record 27 victories in 2026.
Hallman was named Savannah State's head softball coach on August 25, 2022, marking a special homecoming for the Savannah State graduate and former softball standout.
Prior to returning to "The Marsh," Hallman served as head softball coach at Talladega College from 2020-22. She began her collegiate coaching career at Rust College, where she led the softball program from 2018-20.
Hallman's connection to Savannah State began as a student-athlete, where she developed into one of the most accomplished players in program history. A native of Kennesaw, Georgia, Hallman was a four-year starting third baseman for the Lady Tigers while Savannah State competed at the NCAA Division I level as a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
Hallman made an immediate impact during her freshman season in 2012, leading Savannah State in batting average, slugging percentage, runs scored, home runs and total bases. Her outstanding debut season earned her MEAC Rookie of the Year honors.
Hallman went on to earn All-MEAC honors in each of her four seasons at Savannah State. She also earned MEAC All-Tournament recognition and MEAC Defensive Player of the Year honors during a decorated collegiate career that established her among the top players of Savannah State's Division I era.
Her accomplishments continued to receive recognition following her playing career. In 2021, Hallman was selected to the MEAC All-Time Softball Team, joining former Savannah State teammate Torrian Wright among the conference's all-time standouts.
During her Savannah State playing career, Hallman wore No. 70 in honor of her father, Harold Hallman, a three-year letterwinner at Auburn University who played defensive end for the Tigers during the era of Heisman Trophy winner Bo Jackson.
Hallman has continued to build upon the legacy she established as a Savannah State student-athlete, while continuing to set new standards and making the Lady Tigers a respected and perennial championship contender in the SIAC.
