Tigers Drop Road Twinbill At Spring Hill

MOBILE, Ala.- Savannah State saw their conference record fall to 10-7 following a pair of tough losses to Spring Hill on Saturday afternoon at Sims-Galle Field by scores of 9-6 and 2-1.

The Tigers had a late rally in the first game but came up short while the second game was a pitcher's dual where SSU only surrendered one earned run.

Spring Hill led 1-0 after a inning of play in the first game but a solo home run in the top of the second by Kidane Stephens tied the game at 1-1.

SSU went in front 2-1 in the top of the fourth when Johan Sandoval doubled and later scored on a wild pitch.

After the Badgers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, they added four more runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh for a commanding 9-2 advantage.

Down but not out, the Tigers found new life in the eighth as they pushed four runs across home plate with Jayden Clark hitting a RBI single and Sandoval hitting a three-run home run over the left field fence.

Neither team scored in the ninth and the Badgers survived to get the win.

Sandoval finished the contest with three RBI, two hits and two runs .

Austin McCormack took the loss on the hill, pitching 5.2 innings. Bynton Edge pitched one third of an inning and Aidan Turner pitched two innings.

In the second game, the Badgers led 2-0 with a run in the third and another in the fourth.

Savannah State (13-13) scored their lone run in the top of the fifth.

Ramos was hit by a pitch while Clark and Sandoval drew walks to load the bases for Seth Stargell who hit a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Ramos to come home.

While SSU only scored one run and had four hits, the Tigers left ten runners on base.

AJ Finkley had a double for Savannah State while Gavin Jusino, Stargell and Stephens all had singles.

Gregorio Gonzalez was the losing pitcher. Gonzalez pitched six innings and gave up five hits, one earned run while striking out four.

SSU and Spring Hill will conclude their series on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch taking place at 2 p.m.
