ATLANTA, Ga.- Savannah State completed their three-game SIAC sweep of Clark Atlanta on Monday morning with a 8-5 win over the Lady Panthers, in a game played at the Lady panther Softball Field.
With the score tied at 3-3, SSU pulled away by scoring five times in the top of the sixth inning.
Kaitlyn Williams led off the top of the sixth with a walk, advanced to second base on a passed ball and scored when
Jayla Alexander hit a double to right field. Williams advanced to third on a ground-out by
Neveah Ford and scored on a passed ball.
Ariana Battle was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a single by
Donnea Allen. Battle scored on a passed ball and Allen came home on a single by
Ansley Hudson. After stealing a base and advancing to third on a ground-out by
Milani Dunning, Hudson touched home plate after
Ambria Guye reached base because of an error by theÂ
shortstop.
CAU scored twice in the bottom of the sixth and both teams were held scoreless in the seventh inning.
In the top of the first inning, Hudson walked and advanced to second, third and home because of passed balls for a 1-0 lead. Savannah State went ahead 2-0 when Guye, who reached base because of an error, scored when Williams reached base because of an error.
Clark Atlanta went ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth but Hudson was able to score for SSU in the top of the fifth to tie the game.
Although the Panthers out-hit SSU 6 to 4, both teams made four errors.
Guye drove in two runs for Savannah State and Hudson scored three times.
Allen struck out five batters while issuing only one walk.
Savannah State, who improves to 3-0 in the SIAC, will take their overall record of 12-3 to Albany State on March 6 for a three-game series.
