Lady Tigers Stumble Against LeMoyne-Owen

GARDENDALE, Ala.- Savannah State scored first but LeMoyne-Owen answered with six runs in the second inning and four more in the third as the Magicians defeated SSU 12-7 in the SIAC Crossover on Thursday afternoon at Bill Noble Park.

In the first inning, Jayla Givens hit a RBI double and Jayla Alexander hit a RBI single to give the Lady Tigers a 2-0 advantage.

After LeMoyne-Owen exploded for six runs in the second inning, SSU pulled to within 6-4 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.

Milani Dunning drew a walk and Ansley Hudson reached base on an error by the second baseman. Dunning scored when Givens reached first on a throwing error by the third baseman and Hudson found home plate after Alexander reached base on a fielder's choice to the shortstop.

LOC extended their lead to 10-4 with four runs in the top of the third.

Savannah State got one of the runs back in the bottom of the fourth when Givens hit a triple and scored when Alexander hit a double down the left field line.

After five and a half innings, the Magicians led 11-5 but Savannah State cut their deficit to four runs in the bottom half of the fifth.

Neveah Ford hit a single through the left side of the infield and scored when Dunning hit a single through the right side of the infield. Hudson followed Dunning with a single and that allowed Dunning to make the score 11-7.

LeMoyne-Owen scored the final run of the game in the sixth inning.

Alexander had a double and a single for SSU and drove in three runs. Givens added a triple and a double, scored twice and had one RBI while Hudson crossed home plate twice.

Aaliyah Martin was the losing pitcher. Martin struck out three batters in her seven innings on the mound.

Savannah State (14-9, 5-6 SIAC) will wrap up play in the SIAC Crossover against Miles on Thursday evening.
