Tigers Drop Midweek Home Contest To Erskine

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State stepped out of conference to host Erskine on Tuesday afternoon at Tiger Field where they came up short in a 7-5 loss.

Although SSU lost the game, Gabe Breckenridge had a big day for the Tigers going 4-for-5 at the plate.

The Coppin State transfer hit three singles and a double, driving in a run in the second inning.

The visitors from Due West, South Carolina took an early 2-0 in the top of the second but Savannah State rallied to go ahead 3-2 with a run in the bottom of the second and two runs in the third.

Breckenridge hit a RBI single for the Tigers in the second inning and in the third, Kadine Stephens hit a RBI double and David Sanders hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Yan Cartaya to come home.

The Fleet went back in front with two runs in the sixth and two more in the top of the seventh.

RBI singles by Tyler Tucker and Gavin Jusino in the bottom of the seventh made it a one-run game with Erskine holding a 6-5 margin.

Erskine added an insurance run in the eighth as they held on for the win.

The game was a slugfest with the Fleet getting 14 hits and SSU collecting ten. Both teams left 11 runners on base.

Tucker had two hits and scored twice for Savannah State while Johan Sandoval had a triple and Jan'i Belcher hit a double.
