GARDENDALE, Ala.- Savannah State opened play in the SIAC Crossover on Tuesday morning with a 10-2 loss to Spring Hill, in a game played at Bill Noble Park.

Savannah State fell behind 2-0 in the first inning but bounced back with a pair of runs in the top of the second with Milani Dunning hitting a two-run triple to tie the game.

With two outs, Neveah Ford and Shamiya Raines hit back-to-back singles before Dunning delivered a triple to left center field.

The Badgers responded with two more runs in the bottom of the second and added four runs in the third for a 8-2 advantage.

After a scoreless fourth, Spring Hill scored once in the fifth and once in the sixth for the final runs in the game.

Both teams left six runners on base. The Badgers finished the game with a dozen hits while SSU had eight hits and made a pair of errors.

Dunning had a triple and a single for Savannah State while Phaedra Smith hit a double.

Ariana Battle took the loss, giving up eight hits, eight runs and three walks in three innings. Aaliyah Martin pitched 2.1 innings in relief and surrendered four hits, two runs and two walks.

Savannah State (13-6, 4-3 SIAC) will take on Tuskegee on Tuesday afternoon.
