ATLANTA, Ga.- Savannah State opened the conference portion of their 2026 schedule with a double header road win over Clark Atlanta on Sunday afternoon at the Lady Panther Softball Field.
Donnea Allen hurled a two-hitter and struck out six batters in the Lady Tigers 4-1 win in the opener while
Ambria Guye's two-run home run in the fifth inning gave SSU a 6-4 victory in the second game.
The wins improved SSU to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
In the third inning of the first contest,
Ariana Battle led off with a walk and scored on a ground-out by Allen. Two batters later,
Milani Dunning singled up the middle and scored on a double by Guye for a 2-0 lead.
CAU scored a run in the fourth and after a scoreless fifth, Guye hit a solo home run in the sixth to give the Lady Tigers a 3-1 advantage.
Savannah State loaded the bases in the seventh when
Ansley Hudson singled, Guye was hit by a pitch and
Madison Starling-Martin reached base on a fielder's choice. That led to Hudson scoring off a sacrifice fly by
Kaitlyn Williams and a 4-1 lead.
Guye finished the game with two hits and two RBI and Hudson had two hits.
The Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second game but SSU sent three runs across home plate in the fourth with
Jayla Alexander,
Phaedra Smith and
Neveah Ford all hitting RBI singles.
In the fifth, Hudson led off with a double down the left field line and scored on a single by Dunning to tie the game at 4-4. The next batter, Guye, stepped up to the plate and hit a home run over the center field fence for the game winner.
Guye had two hits, two RBI and scored twice for SSU while Hudson had three hits and Ford had two hits.
Aaliyah Martin pitched a complete game and surrendered five hits, four runs and one walk while striking out one.
SSU will finish the series with Clark Atlanta on March 2 at 11 a.m.
