Tigers Drop Series Finale To Illinois Springfield

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Down 6-4, Illinois Springfield scored three times in the top of the ninth to rally to beat Savannah State on Saturday morning at Tiger Field.

A home-run in the top of the first inning gave the Prairie Stars a 1-0 lead but Savannah State tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning when Jayden Clark scored on a wild pitch.

SSU pushed four runs across home plate in the fifth inning with Johan Sandoval hitting a RBI single, Yan Cartaya hitting a sacrifice fly that scored a run and Tyler Tucker hitting a two-run single.

Illinois Springfield cut the Tigers lead to 5-4 with two runs in thee sixth and another in the seventh.

A RBI single by Jason Ramos in the eighth gave Savannah State a 6-4 cushion before the visitors from the Great Lakes Valley Conference rallied for three runs in the ninth to get the win.

Ramos went 3-for-3 at the plate for SSU, Tucker had two hits and two RBI and Clark scored twice.

Salvatore Urso took the loss on the mound for Savannah State, giving up two runs and two walks. Austin McCormack pitched six innings and struck out four but gave up three runs and five walks. Bynton Edge pitched two innings and struck out three while surrendering two runs and Adonis Perez pitched the final two thirds of the game and issued a walk but no runs or hits.

The Tigers (1-5) will start their conference schedule by hosting Clark Atlanta in a three game series on February 13-14 at Tiger Field.
