SAVANNAH, GA- Savannah State University has released its football schedule for the upcoming 2026 season. The ten game slate features five home games as well as one NCAA Division I-FCS opponent.

2026 will mark the 124^th season of Savannah State football, a program which had their inaugural competition on Thanksgiving Day in 1902. Savannah State will look to improve upon last season's 4-6 overall record 3-5 mark against SIAC competition.
 
The Thomas Howard era of Savannah State football will begin with a road trip to Orangeburg, South Carolina to face FCS foe South Carolina State University on August 29 at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs are the defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and HBCU Football National Champions. Howard served as the Bulldogs defensive coordinator during the 2023 season while SC State head coach Chennis Berry was an all-conference offensive lineman for Savannah State in 1994.
 
After an OPEN week on September 5, the Tigers will play their home and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener against Albany State University at Theodore A. Wright Stadium at 6 p.m. The Golden Rams are the SIAC defending champions.
 
Following a trip down I-95 to Jacksonville, Florida to play Edward Waters University on Sept. 19, the Tigers will return home for a two-game home-stand on Sept. 26 and October 3 to face Miles College and Allen University. Savannah State defeated Miles and Allen on the road last season.
 
On Oct. 10, SSU will travel to the state capital to face Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Coach Howard is a alumnus and former play for the Maroon Tigers.
 
A week later on Oct. 17, the Tigers will return to The Marsh to celebrate Homecoming against the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University at 3 p.m.
 
Road games at Kentucky State University (Oct. 24 ) and Benedict College (Oct. 31) come before the season and home finale on November 7 when the Tigers play non-conference opponent Virginia University of Lynchburg at 3 p.m.
