SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State split a double header with Flagler on Wednesday afternoon at games played at the Lady Tiger Softball Field.
SSU took game one 4-3, stretching their winning streak to seven games, but fell in the second game 4-2.
The Saints took the early lead in the first game with a pair of runs in the first inning.
Savannah State answered in the bottom of the fourth when
Milani Dunning reached base on an error by the third baseman and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Kaitlyn Williams.
Flagler went ahead 3-1 in the top of the fifth but in the bottom half of the inning,
Ansley Hudson and
Ambria Guye both hit RBI singles to tie the game at 3-3.
The Lady Tigers scored the game winner in the bottom of the eighth when Dunning singled and came home on a single by
Madison Starling-Martin.
Donnea Allen was the winning pitcher. Allen, who also hit a double in the game, pitched eight innings and gave up eight hits, three runs and five walks while recording five strikeouts.
Savannah State received another strong pitching performance in the second game from
Aaliyah Martin who struck out five batters while issuing ten hits, three earned runs and four walks.
SSU scored their only runs in the first inning when Williams hit a double to left center that scored Hudson and Dunning. Hudson led off the inning with a single while Dunning drew a walk.
For the game, the Lady Tigers left six runners stranded on base including runners in scoring position in the first, fourth and seventh innings.
Williams went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI.
Savannah State (9-3) travels to Clark Atlanta on Saturday for a double header as they open up conference play.
