ALBANY, Ga.- After having their four-game winning streak snapped by Spring Hill, Savannah State has started another winning streak and has now won three matches in a row following Friday afternoon's 3-1 victory over Kentucky State in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover on the campus of Albany State.
The Lady Tigers won the first two sets by scores of 26-24 and 25-20 before falling in the third set 25-23. Savannah State put the Thorobreds to pasture with a 25-16 win in the fourth set.
Following their opening day loss to Spring Hill, Savannah State has beaten Tuskegee, Miles and Kentucky State to improve to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the SIAC.
Amiyah Walker and
Savannah Everett both finished the match with a double double.
Walker had 42 assists and 11 digs to go with her three kills, two aces and two blocks. Everett ended up with 21 kills, 11 digs, three aces and a block.
KSU led 6-1 in the opening set but Savannah State used rallies of 9-1 and 8-1 to go ahead 20-12. Kentucky State answered with a 9-1 spurt to tie the set at 21. The teams continued to battle and SSU took a 24-22 lead but the Thorobreds scored the next two points to knot the score at 24. A kill byÂ

Nyalah Smith sealed the two-point win for SSU.
Savannah State led 17-16 in the second set but KSU scored the next four points to go ahead 20-17. The Thorobreds would not score again as SSU finished the set scoring the final eight points.

Nyalah Smith gave SSU a 23-22 edge in the third set but Kentucky State would finish with a 3-0 spurt to win.
KSU started the fourth set with a 4-1 rally and eventually led 6-2. Savannah State stormed back to tie the set at 10 and then broke a 15-15 tie with eight consecutive points to go in front 23-15. A SSU error gave Kentucky State another point but the Lady Tigers ended the set with a error by KSU and a kill by
Aaliyah Saunders to earn the win.
Mina Ezikpe finished with four kills, two blocks and a dig;
Iyonna Pike had six kills, two digs and a block;
Saniaa Dickey had two assists and eight digs;
Aaliyah Saunders had nine kills, one assist, one ace, five blocks and four digs;
Mya McCall added one assist, one ace and nine digs;
Kira Raby had one kill, one ace and eight digs; while
Nyalah Smith finished with 12 kills, one assist and four blocks.
Savannah State will return to action on September 30 at Benedict.
