Lady Tigers Complete Sweep Of Allen

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Nia Fisher tossed a one-hitter as Savannah State completed a three-game sweep of Allen with a 15-0 win over the Yellow Jackets on Sunday afternoon at the SSU Softball Field.

SSU also swept the three-game series with Allen in 2024, 2023 and 2022.

Fisher pitched all five innings and surrendered one hit, no runs and two walks while striking out seven.

The Lady Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Ambria Guye and Phaedra Smith both hit RBI singles.

Savannah State loaded the bases in the second inning with Fisher, Morgan Cole and Ansley Hudson all hitting singles.  Fisher scored on a passed ball and when Guye reached base on an error, Cole was able to cross home plate. A double by Caleigh Powell brought home Hudson and when Madison Starling-Martin was thrown out at first base, Guye scored for a 6-0 lead.

The Lady Tigers added six runs in the third inning off of just three hits.

Hudson hit a two-run single and scored on a passed ball, Guye and Starling-Martin hit RBI singles and Starling-Martin scored on a passed ball to increase their lead to 12-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Carissa Ball hit a two-run triple to right field and scored on a sacrifice fly by Guye for the last run of the day.

SSU ended the day with 12 hits while drawing six walks.

Hudson scored four times, had three hit and two RBI while Guye had four RBI, scored three times and had two hits. Cole scored three times and had two hits, Ball scored twice and had two RBI and Starling-Martin drove in two runs.

The Lady Tigers (14-16, 10-8 SIAC) will host Georgia Southwestern for Senior Day in a non-conference doubleheader on April 1 starting at 2 p.m.
