Lady Tigers Clinch Series With Sunday Win At FVSU

FORT VALLEY, Ga.- After splitting a doubleheader on Saturday, Savannah State closed out their three-game series against Fort Valley State on Sunday afternoon with a 5-1 road victory over the Wildcats.

The win gives SSU a 11-14 overall record and a 7-8 mark in the SIAC.

Ariana Battle and Nia Fisher combined to strike out six batters as they limited the Wildcats to just four hits.

At the plate, Ambria Guye had two hits and two RBI while Jayla Alexander scored twice and stole two bases and Ariadna Diaz-Jimenez had two hits.

Diaz-Jimenez doubled to lead off the second inning and scored when Fisher reached base on an error by the left fielder and a single by Battle allowed Fisher to score for a 2-0 lead.

FVSU scored a run in the bottom of the third.

In the top of the fifth, Ansley Hudson and Alexander hit back-to-back singles and both scored on a double to left field by Guye to increase the SSU lead to 4-1.

Alexander drew a walk in the seventh and scored on a single to center field by Diaz-Jimenez for the final run of the game.

Savannah State will travel to Brunswick to face College of Coastal Georgia on March 25 in a doubleheader.
