SAVANNAH, Ga.- Solomon Masters struck out eight batters to help Savannah State to 5-2 win over Benedict on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Masters limited Benedict to just two hits in the game as Savannah State improved to 13-6 overall and 12-3 in the SIAC.
Kendal Spencer and
Brevin Smith both drew walks in the first inning and Spencer was able to score on a double steal for a 1-0 lead.
Benedict tied the game in the top of the third but in the bottom half of the inning
Reginald Tuggle and Spencer hit back-to-back singles. Tuggle scored on a passed ball and Spencer was able to steal home to put SSU in front 3-1.
Benedict added another run in the top of the fourth to cut Savannah State's lead to 3-2.
Johan Sandoval led off the bottom of the fourth with a double to left field and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A single by
Julian Grier allowed Sandoval to score and a double by Tuggle brought home Grier to extend the Tigers lead to 5-2.
Tuggle had two hits for Savannah State while Spencer scored twice. Spencer and Smith both stole two bases.
Savannah State will hit the road on March 18 for a non-conference game at Claflin but will return home for a three game series with Edward Waters on March 21-22.
