HOOVER, Ala.- After losing their first game of the day to Lane, Savannah State ended their play in the SIAC Crossover on Thursday with a 3-2 win over Kentucky State. Both games were played at Hoover Metropolitan Complex.
In the win over KSU, the Thorobreds scored a run in the seconding inning but Savannah State answered with three in the bottom of the fourth.
Ansley Hudson leads off with a single and steals second. A single by
Ariana Battle allows Hudson to steal home and a double by
Madison Starling-Martin pouts runners on second ad third forÂ
Ariadna Diaz-Jimenez who hits a double to center field that scores Battle and Starling-Martin for a 3-1 lead.
Kentucky State scored a run in the top of the seventh but SSU held on for the win as they improved to 9-13 overall and 5-7 in the SIAC.
Starling-Martin and Diaz-Jimenez both hitting doubles for the Lady Tigers and Hudson stole two bases.
Nia Fisher and Battle combined to limit KSU to just three hits in the game. Fisher struck out four and gave up two hits in her 4,2 innings while Battle gave up one hit and no runs in her 2.1 innings.
In their 6-1 loss to Lane, SSU scored their only run in the top of the fourth when
Ambria Guye was hit by a pitch and scored on a double down the left field line by
Phaedra Smith.
Guye had two of SSU's four hits in the game.
Caleigh Powell was the losing pitcher, giving up two earned runs and two walks while recording a strikeout.
Savannah State will be back in action on March 19 with a trip to Augusta to play former SIAC foe Paine College in a double header.
