Lady Tigers Drop Two At SIAC Softball Crossover

HOOVER, Ala.- Savannah State could not get their offense in gear on the second day of action in the SIAC Crossover.

On Wednesday, SSU opened the day with a 10-2 loss to Spring Hill and finished it with a 11-3 setback to Tuskegee.

Both games were played at the Hoover Metropolitan Complex.

Against Spring Hill, SSU scored both of their runs in the top of the first inning.

Ariana Battle and Ariadna Diaz-Jimenez both drew walks and scored when Caleigh Powell hit a line drive single to center field for a 2-0 lead.

The Badgers answered with four runs in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the second for a 6-2 lead. Spring Hill scored four more times in the sixth for a eight run lead.

Ansley Hudson had the only other hit for SSU.

Nia Fisher surrendered five earned runs for SSU and struck out two batters.

Tuskegee jumped out to a 10-0 lead before SSU scored in the second game.

The Golden Tigers scored  twice in the first inning, once in the second, three in the third and four times in the top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth, Phaedra Smith doubled and Carissa Ball singled and both scored on a single by Neveah Ford to make the score 10-2.

Tuskegee scored a run in the top of the fifth and SSU responded when Battle led off with a double and scored on a ground out by Powell for the final run of the day.

Ambria Guye had two hits for SSU while Battle and Smith both hit doubles.

Battle pitched five innings and gave up eight earned runs while recording three strikeouts.

Savannah State (8-12, 4-6 SIAC) will close out the Crossover on Thursday with games against Lane and Kentucky State.
