Fuquay-Varina, NC - Savannah State guard Javonte Landy has been named HBCU National Player of the Week by BOXTOROW. Landy, a junior from Savannah, Ga., averaged 19.0 points while shooting 48 percent from the field in helping lead the Tigers to a 3-0 record in SIAC Tournament play last week. In the championship game victory over Tuskegee (3/8), he scored a season high 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, connected on 4-of-6 three pointers, and made 5-of-6 free throws. He made the go-ahead free throw with :02 remaining that lifted the Tigers to the 67-66 victory. He scored 12 points in the last 4:34 to help bring the Tigers back and lead them to victory.
Landy and the Tigers will be the #8 seed in the South Region in the upcoming NCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament and will face #1 seed Nova Southeastern in an Opening Round contest on Saturday, March 15th in Davie, FL at 5:00pm
Landy will be highlighted on the nationally syndicated sports talk show BOXTOROW with Donal Ware which airs on radio stations across the country including on WRUU in Savannah and outside of the U.S. in Bermuda and the Bahamas. A list of radio stations that carry the program can be found here
