Men's Basketball Hosts Spring Hill In Opening Round Of SIAC Tournament

Savannah, Georgia-The Savannah State men's basketball squad looks to continue the momentum they have experienced down the stretch oft the regular season as they get set to take part in the 2025 SIAC Basketball Championships presented by Cricket.

The conference set up a new format this year's postseason play as the top seeds in each division will receive first round byes and automatically advance to the quarterfinal rounds. Seeds #2, #3, & #4 will host Opening Round contests on their respective campuses. The winners of the Opening Round games will then move to Atlanta for the Quarterfinal, Semifinal, and Final Rounds of the single-elimination tournament, on the campus of Morehouse College.

The Tigers, who currently are riding a four-game winning streak, will be the East Division's #4 seed and will host West Division #5 seed Spring Hill in an Opening Round matchup on Saturday, March 1st at 3:30pm inside Tiger Arena. Tickets for the contest are available now by clicking https://ssuathletics.com/sports/2012/7/3/wdpojoadslk.aspx?id=65. Courtesy passes as well as Georgia High School Coaches Association passes will not be accepted for this contest as this is a postseason contest.

It will be a matchup of the proverbial "irresistable force vs. immovable object" between the two teams, as Savannah State has the conference's second ranked defense, allowing 62.3 to opponents this season. On the other side, Spring Hill has the league's top ranked scoring offense, averaging 84.0 points per game. Savannah State will also be putting their eight-game home unbeaten streak on the line in the contest, as they have not dropped a home contest since interim head coach Clevan Thompson took over in early January.

Saturday's matchup between the Tigers and Badgers will be the second time the two teams have met this season. Spring Hill protected their home floor in an 86-70 victory over Savannah State back on December 19th at the Outlaw Center in Mobile, AL.

Savannah State senior guard Ayjay Plain has had the hot hand as of late for the Tigers, as he leads the team in scoring at 12.6 points per game. The Tigers will have their hands full however, as Spring Hill's senior guard Walter Peggs, leads the conference in scoring, averaging 26.4 points per game, and in three-point shooting, connecting on 42.9% of his shots from the bonus sphere.

The game will be live streamed via the Savannah State Sports Network at https://siacnetwork.tv/ssutigers/ with Travis Petty and Daryl Green on the call. Broadcast coverage will begin at 3:15pm with the Pregame Show.
