SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State celebrated their five seniors on Monday evening , before their game with Albany State which ended in a 75-53 win for the Tigers in Tiger Arena.
The Tigers end the regular season with a four game wining streak and have won six of their past seven games.
Savannah State found themselves down 19-9 with 11:34 left in the first half and trailed 27-20 with 5:47 remaining before ending the half with a 13-2 run to take a 33-29 edge into the locker room.
A layup to start the second half by
Jeremiah Barze gave SSU a six point lead by Albany State came back to tie the game at 46 with 10:10 left.
A 3-pointer by
Ayjay Plain broke the tie and started a 9-0 run and SSU never trailed again.
A 8-0 mini run by the Tigers gave them a 15-point cushion and a 6-0 spurt that was capped by a dunk by
Qua King gave Savannah State their largest lead of the night at 75-52 with a minute and a half left.
Plain led Savannah State with 22 points, six steals, four rebounds and three assists. Barze scored 19 and King added 12 points and eight rebounds.
Javontae Landy had eight points and eight assists,
Jerry Maxinaud had eight points and six rebounds,
Jordan Mikel added four points and
Jaydon Cousin scored two.
The Tigers had 22 points of 23 ASU turnovers and had more second chance points (18), bench points (25), points in the paint (38) and fast break points (15).
Playing their final regular season game in Tiger Arena were five SSU seniors (Plain, King, Cousin, Maxinaud and
Austin Lewis).
The Tigers will host Spring Hill in Tiger Arena in the opening match-up of the SIAC Tournament on March 1 at 3 p.m.
