ALBANY, Ga.- Savannah State had their six game winning streak snapped on Tuesday evening, following their 3-0 loss to Albany State.
The crowd at the Jones Brothers HPER Complex saw the Golden Rams take all three sets (25-17, 25-21, 25-13).
Both teams entered the match with 9-2 conference records.
ASU scored the first six points of the opening set before Savannah State rallied to slice their deficit to 6-3. The Lady Tigers closed their gap to 12-10 but never got any closer. SSU trailed by six but was able to make the score 20-16 before the Golden Rams ended the set with a 5-1 spurt.
Savannah State trailed by as many as nine in the second set before using a 8-1 to make the score 21-19. SSU was down 23-21 but Albany State scored the final two points to get the win.
With SSU down 12-9 in the third set, Albany State scored the next eight points to pull away.
Savannah Everett had seven kills for Savannah State while
Aaliyah Saunders and
Nyalah Smith had six apiece.
Amiyah Walker finished with 21 assists and seven digs,
Saniaa Dickey had two aces and Saunders had four blocks.
The setback gives the Lady Tigers a 13-5 overall record and a 9-3 SIAC record.
Savannah State will be back in action on October 23 to face Fort Valley State at 6 p.m. in the Willcox-Wiley Gymnasium.
