Box Score MT. VERNON, Ga.- The Savannah State women's volleyball team began their 2024 season with a loss to Brewton-Parker by a score of 0-3. The match was played at Gillis Gymnasium on September 6, 2024.
Brewton-Parker (4-0) won by scores of 15-25,19-25, 21-25.
In the opening set, SSU scored the first point but the Barons answered with three straight points to take the lead. A pair of errors by Brewton-Parker allowed the Lady Tigers to tie the score at 3-3. SSU fell behind 7-11 but rallied with three straight points to slice their deficit to 10-11. BPC began to pull away by scoring eight of the nest nine points to take a 11-19 advantage.
The second set was close until BPC pulled away at the end with the final four points. Savannah State trailed 15-17, following a kill by
Jasmine Nettles but Brewton-Parker went ahead by four thanks to two errors by the Lady Tigers. A block by Nettles followed by a pair of service aces byÂ
Amiyah Walker helped Savannah State close their gap to 18-19. But, the Barons ended the set with a 6-1 run to get the win.
The final set saw BPC score the first three points but Savannah State bounced back to take a 5-4 lead. With the score knotted at 14, two errors by the Barons helped give SSU a 16-14 advantage but Brewton-Parker answered with a pair of 4-0 runs to go ahead 17-22. Back-to-back kills byÂ

Savannah Everett helped SSU get as close as three.
As a team, Savannah State had 26 kills and made 27 errors. SSU also had four aces, two blocks, 25 assists and 23 digs.
Individually, Everett had a game-high 10 kills, Walker had three aces and 15 assists, Saunders had a game-high two blocks and
Kloe Ludy finished with a game-high nine digs.
SSU (0-1) will travel to Middle Georgia State for a match on September 10 at 6 p.m.
