SSU Student-Athletes Earn SIAC Academic Honors

ATLANTA, Ga.- The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference recognized 1,127 student-athletes for their academic excellence in the release of its 2023-24 SIAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team, All-Academic Team and individual team honors. Savannah State University had 81 student-athletes named to the SIAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team and 14 were named to the SIAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team .

The SIAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team comprises a roster of student-athletes who excelled on their respective playing fields and in the classroom, earning a 3.2 or better cumulative grade point average for the academic year.

Student-athletes named to the SIAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team held the highest cumulative grade point averages within their respective sports.
 
Football led the way with 14 student-athletes being named to the SIAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team while baseball had 11. Men's track and softball had nine student-athletes each on the list  and men's cross country and men's basketball had eight each. Rounding out the individual sports on the list were volleyball (5), men's golf (4), women's track (4), women's cross country (4), tennis (3) and women's basketball (2).
 
Savannah State student-athletes named to the SIAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team include Kiandre Fortson (3.90 GPA) and Jayden Wilson (3.90 GPA) from men's cross country and men's track; Maddison Green (4.00) and Sadrea Mabry (4.00) from women's cross country and women's track; Padmasree Murugan (3.98) and Sunzahra Banks (3.97) in women's tennis; Mark Greene (3.84) and Joseph Moore (3.82) in men's golf; Luke Sanders (4.00) baseball; and Madison Starling-Martin (4.00) in softball.
