Abbie DeLoach Foundation Awards Two Tigers Scholarships

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Two Savannah State student-athletes were among the 29 recipients of scholarships awarded by the Abbie DeLoach Foundation at this year's ceremony and luncheon in April.

Mia Goolsby, a point guard for the women's basketball team and Kenneth Lockhart, a specialist for the football team, were awarded scholarships.

Last year's recipients from Savannah State were also announced. Andrai Wright from the baseball team and Jedaiah Daniels from women's volleyball received scholarships. The 2020 and 2021 luncheons were cancelled due to the pandemic.

Recipients exemplify academic excellence, exemplary service work or athletic commitment, according to the Foundation's website and are nominated by coaches and athletic directors.

Over 170 people attended the 2022 luncheon. Among the attendees were Savannah Mayor Van Johnson, Abbie DeLoach's uncle and former Savannah mayor Eddie DeLoach, State Senator Ben Watson, State Representative Jan Tankersley, and Chatham County Sherriff John Wilcher.

The Abbie DeLoach Foundation was founded in 2016 by her family after the athlete and nursing student lost her life in a tragic car accident. Each year, the Foundation rewards student-athletes from Georgia Southern and Savannah State with scholarships to recognize their time commitment to their studies and to sports.
