SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State lost two of the three games with Edward Waters that were played April 19-20 at the SSU Softball Field.

The teams split a double-header on April 19 with EWU winning the first game 7-2 and Savannah State winning the nightcap 4-3. The following day, Edward Waters beat SSU 13-2 to win the series.

In the first game, Edward Waters led 5-0 after the third inning.

Savannah State scored their only runs of the contest in the fourth when
LaTaviona Parke and
Haley Carroll hit back-to-back singles and then advanced a base on a double steal. A ground-out by
Ziahya Griffin allowed Parke to score while Carroll scored on a passed ball.

EWU closed out the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh.
Â
Parke went 3-for-3 for SSU while
Rosa Carnesale was the losing pitcher despite only giving up only two earned runs. SSU made five errors in the game.

In the second game of the double-header, Edward Waters led 2-0 after three and a half innings of play.

In the bottom of the fourth,
Haley Carroll hit a RBI triple while
Ziahya Griffin and
Zarria Smith both hit RBI singles to put SSU in front 3-2.

Ed Waters (35-14, 17-5 SIAC) tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Griffin drew a walk and scored on a single by Smith to go ahead 4-3 and held on to get the win.

Smith had a pair of singles for SSU while
Neveah Ford hit a double and Carroll had a triple. Smith was also the winning pitcher with four strikeouts.

In the rubber game of the series, Brooke Rice hit a two-run homer for Edward Waters in the top of the first inning.

Savannah State responded with
Haley Carroll hitting a RBI single in the bottom of the first and
LaTaviona Parke hitting a RBI double in the third to tie the game.

EWU did the rest of the scoring on the day as Savannah State only had one hit the rest of the game.
Â
Edward Waters scored five times in the fourth, once in the fifth and five more times in the sixth.
Â
Milani Dunning was 2-for-2 at the plate for Savannah State. In the field, SSU made eight errors.
Zarria Smith was the losing pitcher.

Savannah State (13-26, 9-15 SIAC) will close the regular season with a non-conference double-header against Brewton-Parker on April 23 at the SSU Softball Field, starting at 3 p.m.
