SAVANNAH, Ga.- The final game of the three-game series between Savannah State and Clark Atlanta turned out to be a pitcher's dual, with the Panthers prevailing 4-3.

SSU used two pitchers in the game with
Kayla Ragins pitching two inning and
Rosa Carnesale closing out the final five innings. Both pitchers gave up two hits and two runs with one strikeout each.

Clark Atlanta countered with Coreya Quarterman who pitched all seven inning and gave up four hits, three runs, two earned runs and seven walks while striking out two batters.

The loss drops Savannah State to 10-19 overall and 6-8 in the SIAC.
Â
A two-run double by Johannas Bentley gave the Panthers a early lead in the first inning.
Â
The score remained the same until the fifth inning when both teams scored twice.

Coreya Quarterman hit a two-run home run over the left field fence for CAU while
Kylie Rhymer and
Phaedra Smith crossed home plate for Savannah State.

Caleigh Powell led off the bottom of the fifth with a double to left center field.
Kylie Rhymer, who entered the game as a pinch runner for
Caleigh Powell, stole third base.
Phaedra Smith drew a walk and stole second base. A ground-out by
Milani Dunning allowed
Kylie Rhymer to score and a ground-out by
Neveah Ford brought home
Phaedra Smith to make the score 4-2.

Savannah State had the bases loaded in the sixth inning but could not push any runs across home plate.

In the bottom of the seventh,
Neveah Ford singled, advanced to second base on a error by the second baseman and made her way to third on a passed ball. A fly-out by
LaTaviona Parke brought home
Neveah Ford for the final run of the game.

In addition to having the bases loaded in the sixth, SSU also left the bases loaded in the fourth inning and had a runner in scoring position in the first inning.

Haley Carol and
Caleigh Powell both hit doubles for Savannah State while
Neveah Ford stole two bases.

In addition to being the winning pitcher, Coreya Quarterman had two RBI and scored twice for CAU (12-25, 4-11 SIAC).

Savannah State will continue their nine-game home stand against Fort Valley State with a three game series starting on March 28 at 2 p.m.
