HOOVER, Ala.- Savannah State improved their record to 8-10 following their 17-4 win over LeMoyne-Owen in the afternoon game of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Roundup that was played on March 12 at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

The victory also gives SSU a 4-3 conference record.

Savannah State scored in all five innings as they collected 14 hits.
Â
Milani Dunning led off the game by drawing a walk and scored on a single to right field by
Haley Carol for a 1-0 lead.
Â
The Magicians tied the game in the bottom of the inning but SSU scored four times in the second inning to go ahead 5-1.

Madison Starling-Martin started the second with a walk and advanced to second base on a single by
Kayla Ragins. Both runners advanced a base following a ground-out by
Caleigh Powell and Starling-Martin scored on a single by
Phaedra Smith.

Dunning drew a walk to load the bases for
Neveah Ford who hit a single to left field that scored Ragins. When
LaTaviona Parke reached base on a fielding error by the shortstop, it allowed Dunning and Ford to cross home plate.

Savannah State scored nine times off seven hits in the top of the third inning with Ragins and Powell hitting RBI singles,
Phaedra Smith and
Haley Carol hitting two-run singles and Parke and
Ziahya Griffin hitting RBI doubles. Starling-Martin added a sacrifice fly that scored Griffin.

LeMoyne-Owen scored three runs off four hits in the bottom of the inning to slice their deficit to 11 runs.

With two outs in the fourth inning, Ford was hit by a pitch, advanced to second and third bases on a wild pitch and stole home to push SSU's lead to 15-3.

Powell drew a walk in the fifth inning, advanced two bases on wild pitches and ended up stealing home while Dunning also drew a walk and scored when Ford hit a double to left field for the final runs of the game.

Ragins was 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and Carol was 3-for-4 with three RBI. Smith had two hits and three RBI, Ford finished with two hits, two RBI and two runs while Parke collected two hits. Griffin, Starling-Martin and Powell all scored twice.

Rosa Carnesale was the winning pitcher and ended up with four strikeouts.

Kelby Harvey went 2-for-3 and scored twice for the Magicians (0-4, 0-2 SIAC). Harvey was also the losing pitcher, giving up seven walks and throwing six wild pitches.

Savannah State will face Spring Hill and Miles on March 13 in the SIAC Roundup.
