JACKSON, Tenn.- Savannah State won their fourth game in a row with a 63-52 victory over Lane in a game played at Oman Arena on January 6, 2024.

Ta'Quasia Lampkin and
Nyla Allen both scored 15 points for SSU and
Amari Heard chipped in 11 points.

Lampkin also had six rebounds, two blocks and two steals while Allen had six steals, five rebounds and four assists. Heard added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.

With the game knotted at 10, SSU scored 10 unanswered points to go ahead 20-10 with 1:12 left in the first quarter. During the stretch, Lampkin and
Talia Hamilton scored four points apiece and Allen added a pair of free throws.

Lane got within eight but the Lady Tigers ended the quarter getting a free throw from Hamilton and a buzzer beating jumper by Heard for a 23-12 lead.

SSU opened the second quarter with Allen hitting two free throws for a 13 point cushion.

Lane climbed back in the game, using a 14-4 run to slice the SSU lead to 29-26 with just over two minutes remaining in the quarter.

The Lady Tigers finished the half with a 10-0 run to take a 39-26 lead into intermission.

Mya Byrd and
Jashiyah Jones both buried 3-pointers during the run while Allen made a jumper and Heard had a layup.

SSU's lead grew to 15 early in the third quarter but the Dragons battled back to close their gap to 48-43 with 15 seconds left in the quarter. However, two free throws by Jones with one second left in the quarter put the Lady Tigers ahead by seven.

A steal by Allen early in the fourth quarter led to a fast-break layup by Jaquece Alston for a 52-43 lead.

With eight and a half minutes remaining in the game, Lane trailed by seven but Savannah State responded with a 10-3 spurt that was capped by a 3-pointer from Byrd for a 62-48 lead with 3:36 showing on the clock.

In a game that had four ties and one lead change, SSU shot 56.3 percent from the field in the first quarter and finished the contest making 40.7 percent of their shots.

Savannah State had 30 points in the paint, 19 fast break points and 27 points off turnovers.

Lane won the rebounding battle 43 to 31.

Hamilton had seven points for SSU while Jones and Byrd added six apiece and Alston scoring two.

Brailyn Tate and Ericca Richardson each scored 12 points for Lane (5-7, 3-3 SIAC).

Savannah State will return home on Jan. 8 for a non-conference battle with Morris in Tiger Arena at 5:30 EST.

The win gives the Lady Tigers a 7-3 overall record and a 5-2 conference record.
