SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State University red-shirt senior Joseph Smith was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-South Region Team on May 19, 2023.
 
Smith was selected to the All-South Region Second Team as a outfielder.
 
The Brunswick, Georgia native finished the 2023 season with a .404 batting average. He also had 62 hits, 55 runs, 11 doubles, seven triples, six home runs and 50 RBI. Smith also had a .516 on base percentage, .663 slugging percentage and stole 25 bases.
 
The NCBWA honor is the third award for Smith this year. He was also named to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team and the Black College Nines First Team.
