Softball Splits DH With Paine College

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State softball split a non-conference doubleheader with Paine College on Tuesday, winning game one 6-4 and falling 3-10 in game two.

The Lady Tigers are 6-15 overall as they head into the final stretch of the regular season.

In game one, Savannah State trailed 0-1 into the bottom of the first inning. Kayla McDuffie led-off for the Lady Tigers with a single and was pushed to third on a bunt single from Kaytrie-ana Bradshaw.

Later, Kylie Rhymer singled to score McDuffie. Samantha Morales platted Bradshaw on a groundout to second and Rhymer was brought in on a fly out from Alisyn Ferrell to give SSU a 3-1 lead. The Lady Tigers platted two more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-2 lead into the final two innings.

In the sixth, Paine platted two runs off a triple from Dara Ayovi and a costly throwing error that allowed her to score cutting SSU's lead to 5-4. Savannah State responded with a run in the bottom of the frame—Bradshaw singled to center, scoring Demonee Miles who reached on a single.

Ferrell forced a three-up, three-down in the top of the seventh to secure the 6-4 win for Savannah State. Ferrell was tagged with the win after 7.0 innings of work. She allowed four earned runs on 14 hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Miles and Ziahya Griffen both went 2-for-3 at the plate while Bradshaw and Rhymer each were 2-for-4 in the win.

Paine broke a scoring stalemate in game two, platting two runs in the top of the fourth. Savannah State responded in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single from Ferrell and a run from Rhymer on a wild pitch.

Paine spread out a couple more runs in the fifth and sixth and SSU put up a single run in the sixth. Into the seventh, Paine led 4-3.

But, a wild hit parade for the visitors led to tough loss for SSU. Paine put up six runs on six solid hits and one SSU error for a 10-3 lead and the final score as the Lady Tigers were unable to respond in the bottom of the final inning.
