Down the final stretch of the regular season, SSU has three remaining games. All on the road. They face Edward Waters (Feb. 11), Albany State (Feb. 18) and Fort Valley State (Feb. 21) to close out the regular season.

Savannah State University will host the 2023 SIAC Basketball Tournament Championship presented by Cricket Feb. 25-March 4. Tickets are now on sale.

Prior to the game, The Lady Tigers celebrated Senior Day honoring Bria Gibbs, Mia Goolsby, Autumn Westmoreland, Amari Heard and Paris Thompson for their contributions to the program.

After trailing for the entire first half, Savannah State bounced back with a strong third quarter on Saturday. But by the last few minutes of the game, every shot mattered, in an intense back-and-forth battle with the Panthers.

With 1:55 to play, the game was knotted up at 49. From the free-throw line, Nyla Allen tacked on two to give SSU a little nudge. 1:34 remained.
On the other end, Clark Atlanta's Corriana Evans took too many steps and the Lady Tigers got the ball back with 1:14 to play.

The Panthers put the press on. At the top of the key, Gibbs wrestled away a 50/50 toss up off a bad pass, and then dumped it inside to a wide-open Heard who scored the easy layup.

Savannah State led 53-49 with 59 seconds to play.

Clark Atlanta came down the court and Evans made up for her travel with a base-line drive and layup, cutting SSU's lead to 53-51.

On SSU's next possession, Heard missed a layup and Clark rebounded. On the other end, they missed the game-tying shot. Heard rebounded, was quickly fouled and sent to the line with :9 seconds to play.

Heard missed the first free-throw. The second free-throw also missed. Trinity Jones grabbed the rebound but stepped out of bounds to turn the ball over as the crowd roared.

But it was quiet in Tiger Arena in the opening minutes as Clark Atlanta started the game on a 9-0 run. By the end of the first period, they led 18-13. At the half, they were up 28-24.

By the end of the third it was tied at 41. An 8-2 run late in the period, marked by three-pointers from Westmoreland and Jashiyah Jones, kept SSU alive and set up the thrilling final minutes.

Jones led the Lady Tigers with 14 points on the night. Gibbs put away 11 while Allen tacked on 10 and was perfect at the charity stripe (4-for-4). SSU shot 70% from the free-throw line, hitting 14-of-20 attempts.
